Thanks for taking time to read my blog!
My name is David Holcomb. My experience includes stints in large, multi-national corporations, mid-size multi-unit retail, to start-ups. My primary expertise is turning “data into dollars” and making organizations more effective. Merging organizations, organizational restructuring, and organizational turn-around excite me. My education includes a BA from Western Illinois University (Go Leathernecks!), MS in Management Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University, a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Organizations & Leadership) from Touro University International (branch of Touro College) and a Ph.D. in Information Technology from the University of the Cumberlands.
The origin of “Draw No Boxes” dates back to a Management/Leadership Development class I attended. In the class, the instructor continuously said, “We need more people to think outside the box.” After the third time of using the phrase, “think outside the box,” she ask if we agreed. I said, “No, I completely disagree.” She kindly asked me what I thought and I said, “I don’t more people ‘thinking outside the box’, I want fewer people drawing boxes”. I thought I would get set home. To my surprise, the instructor considered what I said to be more true than not. I applaud her. I was serious. Voilà, “Draw No Boxes” became my mantra.
Too many times we limit our thinking. Although we may be limited by budgets, expertise, or other real constraints, our thinking should not be limited. “Draw No Boxes” says simplify and don’t limit your thinking.
“Draw No Boxes” is a little about management, a little about data and a little about assorted other things. I will offer my musings on a variety of topics in several categories and forms. You may find video, article reviews, concept pieces, poetry, songs, etc. There truly will be “no boxes.” I hope you enjoy and gain something from it.
Thanks for spending the time with me!
